INVESTMENT ANALYST

Investment Analysts at ASAM play a crucial role in driving investment pitch ideas and contributing to the fund’s overall strategy. This 12-week program is designed for students with a strong interest in financial markets and funds management, equipping them with the skills needed to succeed as an analyst in public markets.

Analysts work in teams of five under the guidance of a Portfolio Manager and an Industry Mentor, engaging in real-world equity research on ASX-listed companies. The program culminates in a professional stock pitch presentation, with top investment ideas considered for inclusion in the ASAM portfolio.

No prior financial modelling experience is required, but analysts must be willing to learn and practice independently throughout the program.

Key responsibilities

  • Collaborate in a team of five alongside a dedicated Portfolio Manager

  • Attend fortnightly ASAM team workshops designed to help you build your pitch

  • Attend fortnightly mentor sessions with professionals from top Australian funds

  • Select and research an ASX300 company to develop an in-depth investment pitch

  • Build a DCF and Comparable Company Analysis, with guidance from mentors

  • Contribute to a professional-grade presentation covering company overview, investment thesis, valuation, catalysts, risks, and a detailed Q&A appendix

  • Present a 10-minute team pitch to an industry panel in Week 12

  • Compete to have your stock idea added to the ASAM portfolio

Ideal candidate

We are looking for students who are self-motivated, curious about the funds management industry, and take pride in producing high-quality work. The ideal candidate is proactive, open to feedback, and committed to continuous learning and development.

Strong time management, reliability, and the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment are essential.

At ASAM, we operate as a meritocracy — fund allocation and progression opportunities are based on performance.

Who should apply?

  • Students with at least one year remaining in their degree — This allows enough time to gain meaningful experience before entering the industry. However, if you believe you bring a unique perspective or experience, we encourage you to apply.

  • Applicants based in Sydney, Australia — ASAM is headquartered in Sydney and our team workshops are partially held in person. While students from outside Sydney are welcome to apply, they must demonstrate their ability to attend in-person sessions and fully commit to the program.

KEY EXPECTATIONS

ASAM members are expected to:

  • Attend fortnightly Saturday team workshops (3 in person, 3 via Zoom)
    – Attendance is mandatory unless approved in advance
    – Missing more than three sessions without explanation may result in removal from the program

  • Attend fortnightly industry mentor Zoom sessions (6 in total)

  • Be committed, responsive, and well-prepared each week

  • Complete assigned tasks on time and communicate proactively if facing challenges
